" Specialises in shipping, including collisions, salvage, fire and explosion, total loss, piracy, limitation of liability, wreck removal, both civil and criminal pollution liabilities. Also marine insurance and coverage and other shipping-related commercial and contractual disputes. He speaks French and Spanish.
An acknowledged piracy expert, he has spoken at a number of high profile events and is regularly quoted in the press.
In September 2012 James won the Lloyd's List Global Award Maritime Lawyer of The Year for his work in piracy.

"I've worked on all kinds of software, from ground analysis for telemetry from the ISIS II satellite, to the original Unix Emacs, the NeWS window system and the Java Programming language. My PhD thesis was on "The Algebraic Manipulation of Constraints". I had some wonderful years at Sun Micro systems, where I was best known as the original developer of the Java programming language. These days I hack the control software of autonomous ocean-going robots"

James has worked In many different jobs, working with a wide range of different software. He went the university of Calgary are received a bachelor of science. He has also has a PHD in computer science from a different university - Carnegie Mellon Calgary.
